Summer Classes from 2008

 

At the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory we pride ourselves in providing the most engaging, hands-on classes you’ll find. Whether children drop in for a single class or take a whole series, everyone has a good time.

 

How to read this schedule:
YE= Young Explorer Ages 4-6, 10 am – noon, cost: $15.00.
JE= Junior Explorer Ages 7-10, 10 am-noon, Cost:$15.00.
RK= Rocketeer Ages 8-up, 10 am-noon, Cost: $20.00. Min. Class Size: 4   Max. Class Size: 12.

 

Pre-registration & pre-payment are required for these classes. Cancellations received by 3:00pm the prior day will receive a full refund. Contact (541) 593-4394 for further information and reservations.

Big Mighty Trees

Explore the forest and whooo lives there.

 

Birds of a Feather

Some birds fly and some birds swim, but all birds have feathers. Learn about our feathered friends, meet our birds of prey and have some feathered fun!

 

Budding Botanist

Flowers, seeds, leaves, fruit and trees make up the magical world of plants!

 

Dino-mite Fun

Get down in the dirt and dig up your own fossil. Learn how to make a fossil.

 

Furry Friends

You see them! You love them, but do you really know what they are? Learn about some of your favorite furry friends. Find out where they live, what they eat and what they do.

 

I Toad You, So

No, you really don’t get warts from toads. Come learn about toads and the great Sunriver Toad Migration.

 

Pond Party

Spend the morning mucking around with us! We’ll explore the large and small stuff that lurks beneath the pond scum.

 

Scutes, Scales & Lizard’s Tales

Do lizards really loose their tails? Or shoot blood from their eyes? Learn about these and other fascinating facts about reptiles.

 

What’s “Bugging” You?

Do you know the difference between a bug and an insect? How can you tell which is which? Come out and have some “bug” fun!

 

 

JE: Junior Explorers (ages 7 to 10)

Happy Feet (Tracks)

Decipher track clues; check out whose feet are whose and who is doing what. Take home a track guide.

 

Herp, Herp, Hooray!

Are you fanatical about frogs? Have you ever slithered like a snake? Learn some fascinating facts about herps.

 

Insect-Topia

What can be more fun then catching insects, and studying them? At the end of our class our six-legged friends are released. 

 

Kaleidoscopes

Have fun with light and mirrors. Take home a Kaleidoscope made in class.

 

Lithic Legends

Every rock has a story to tell.

Once a mighty volcano, now just a pebble.

Can you see the secrets of the rocks?

 

Ooze and Slime

Come and learn about the science of ooze and slime. We’ll make slime to take home.

 

 

Owl Puke

What did the owl eat? Put on your detective hats and dissect an owl pellet

 

Tadpole Tales

Spend the morning mucking around exploring, the large and small stuff that lurks beneath the pond scum.

 

Where’s My Home?

Investigate the different habitats around the nature center.

 

 

RK: Rocketeers (ages 8 and up)

Full of Hot Air (Air Rockets)

Build, design, and launch your own air powered rocket. You’ll be surprised how far your rocket flies!

 

Rocket Science 109

A beginner’s class for solid fuel

rockets. Learn the basics and fly your own small rocket.

 

Rocket Science 209

So you have the basics, it’s time to learn more by making choices in the rocket you build and fly.

 

Rocket Science 309

An advanced rocket class on select Saturdays. This class offers more rockets to choose from and build. Come join the fun and watch them fly!
