Observatory

The Sunriver Observatory is a one-of-a-kind facility.  With the help of our staff you’ll see nebulas, double stars, globular star clusters and planets.  Not some doctored up digital image from a satellite but the real thing. Light from objects billions of miles away will hit your very own retina! Depending on staffing and attendance, there may even be an opportunity for you and your children to try your hand at operating real 8" telescopes on your own with the help of our volunteers.

Unlike Planetariums, at the Observatory you'll see the real thing.   Because of strict light pollution control in Sunriver, we are able to see deep sky objects that can’t be seen from the city.

On a busy night, it's not unusual for us to have ten or more 8-20 inch diameter telescopes in operation.   Often other amateur astronomers will bring their own equipment and join in the fun. The Sunriver Observatory is a hands-on experience unlike any other.
